Culinary, travel fest to feature Antique’s native ‘lechon’

RhodoraCadiao said Antique is making an aggressive marketing of its roasted nativepigs as a way of attracting tourists to visit and taste its unique dish. Last month, the province was launchedas the Native Lechon Capital of the Philippines. Miranda added students from theAntique National School here will perform under the direction of local composerSammy Rubido. The three-day tourism promotion eventwill also be participated by the travel and tour associations and the farmtourism stakeholders. Meanwhile, Department of Tourismregional director Helen Catalbas said the festival will highlight WesternVisayas as a culinary destination by featuring indigenous dishes andingredients as prepared by local chefs from the different provinces of theregion.    “There will be three native lechons that would be served to guestsand participants during the Antique Day,” Claudine Miranda, project manager ofthe provincial Tourism office, said on Tuesday.   The province staged its LechonFestival as part of the activities lined up during the Northern Antique RiverFestival held at a resort in Tibiao, Antique on Oct.27. She said the provincial government isalso in the process of distributing native pigs to the sugar migrants and theirfamilies to boost their livelihood.
