Audrey A. Gutzwiller, of Batesville, died Saturday, February 11, 2017 on her 101st birthday, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born February 11, 1916 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Gertrude (Nee: Schiller) and Henry Buck. She married Alfred Gutzwiller February 15, 1941 at St. Louis Church and he preceded her in death December 25, 2000. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Louis Church.Audrey was the type of person who was always busy doing something. She quilted and crocheted, making countless afghans and other pieces for the family and for many years she crocheted little bonnets for the hospital. Audrey enjoyed the outdoors, often going for walks around the property to collect nuts, fishing with the family when the kids were still at home and working in the large garden she put out each year, canning the excess. Her family also talked about mom being a people person, that she was an avid reader and apparently her pie baking skills were possibly without equal. She knew everybody’s favorite pie and baked it for them if they were coming. She drove until she was 92, voluntarily giving up her keys and was able to stay at home until the last couple of years. When the family was together at Christmastime, she would wow everyone by demonstrating that she could bend over and the touch the floor, right up to this last December. Her family teased that she did have a low center of gravity that might have helped.Audrey is survived by her daughters Roberta Lodi of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marla Vandevier of Cleveland, Ohio; son Mike Gutzwiller of Batesville; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by son Richard Gutzwiller; grandson Matt Gutzwiller; sister Gertrude Walsman and brother John Buck.Visitation is Tuesday, February 14th, from 10:30 a.m. until Noon at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at noon and burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Fire Department.
