Ellsworth’s Dan Curts places 19th at national championship

Curts fi nished 19th in fh e fi eld of 40 of the nation’s best high school runners.SAN DIEGO — Dan Curts of the Ellsworth Eagles placed 19th in the boys’division of the 35th Annual Foot Locker Cross-country Championships on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Balboa Park in San Diego.Despite a hamstring injury that plagued Curts over the last six weeks of his season, the two-time Class B state champion finished the five-kilometer course in 15 minutes and 44 seconds.Curts was one of three high school runners from Maine to place among the top half of their respective fields, each consisting of 40 elite runners. Bethel’s Josef Holt-Andrews placed 10th in the boys’ race, earning All-American status, and North Yarmouth’s Kirstin Sandreuter placed 20th in the girls’ race.Find in-depth coverage of local news in The Ellsworth American.
